Sappho

NOK 500.00

This linocut is a tribute to Sappho. She was a poet from the island of Lesbos, writing in ancient Greece around 600 BCE. Celebrated for her lyric poetry, she wrote with striking intimacy about love, desire, and the beauty of women. Though much of her work survives only in fragments, the emotional clarity and tenderness of her verses have resonated for centuries.

Sappho’s deep affection for women has made her an enduring symbol of queer love. The very word lesbian is derived from her home island, and sapphic—meaning women-loving-women—comes from her name. Despite being separated from us by time, Sappho remains a vital icon for the lesbian and queer community: a testament to the timelessness of queer expression, art, and desire.

This one-of-a-kind A5 lino print, on Hahnemühle 230g paper, is hand pressed with love and rage on my kitchen table in Oslo, Norway. All pieces are unique, and each will therefore have slight variations. This first edition print is numbered and signed.

VAT and shipping included in the price.
