Hvert ertu að fara?

Sweater - Only // Blouse - Gina Tricot // Pants - Gestuz // Cardigan - Gina Tricot // Shoes - Bianco

Next week I'm traveling to Iceland; hence the title - "where are you going" in Icelandic. It is both a dream come true and a bit of a contradiction, as it is even colder there than in Oslo right now. I guess I'll be getting a head start on winter this way. I'm stuffing my bag with chunky knits and comfortable clothes, and maybe even some super duper wool underwear to keep me warm.

Have you ever been to Iceland? I've been searching for travel tips online today, but I'm kind of overwhelmed by the amount of information that is out there. Something as simple as the names are confusing me. Slippidippir, kvitnirsitnir and dopparappir. These are made up, by the way. I'm not only staying in the capital; Reykjavik - but going on kind of a road trip all over the island. I'm really excited about it, and can't wait to see all the different fjords, glaciers and volcanoes. Not to mention the semi-wild horses!

There are at least three things on my must-see and must-do list. Of course, Blue Lagoon Spa is first on my list. I can almost feel the warm water on my skin as I write this. Then there is the Weekend Marked behind the police station in Reykjavik, which is the best road map given by the internet - ever. And then there is the Thingvellir National Park, which is on the world heritage list. They say variation is key! There is of course a thousand things I could mention, but as I said earlier - the amount of information is just throwing me for a loop. If you by any chance is an Icelandic reader, or have been to the beautiful island - please feel free to give me your best suggestions!

  2. I dream of going to Iceland myself, as well as Norway, Denmark, Finland and Sweden, as I'm such a Viking freak. The thingvellir was gonna be my suggestion, but I see you got that one on your list already ;)

    1. Wrote a little post about it the other day. I honestly don't know how to explain it, though. It was just incredible and overwhelming. In a very, very good way.

    1. And it really was a dream! It should be mandatory for every citizen of the world to go there. Truly! I didn't meet Bjork, even though that would have been the ultimate Icelandic experience. She's one of my icons!

  8. I HAVE TIPS!!!

I've not only been to Iceland, I'm in love with it! When I was 18 I went there for three weeks as a volunteer and loved it so much I delayed University for a year and went back to au pair and volunteer. Since then I've been back again on a third trip as a tourist. After my undergrad I plan on moving there to do more volunteer work and study. I can't really explain how much I love Iceland but it's more than i've ever (romantically) loved a person. If you'd like some tips please send me an e-mail to let me know you're interested (I don't want to write hundreds of words if they never reach you, i'm sure you get what I mean?) or you could just read my "Iceland" tagged blogs on my blog page but personalised is always better. Barbro I'm SO EXCITED FOR YOU. :) And jealous :D

    1. I'm really sorry I didn't e-mail you before my trip, but I checked out your blog and really found a ton of inspiration!

It's just inexplainable, the whole Icelandic experience. I wish I had more time over there. Much more time. I will most definitely be returning, hopefully with a lot more time to just take it all in. It felt like home.

Thank you so much for commenting and for the link to your Icelandic experiences!

  9. I know this is a horribly pretentious thing to do but to explain a little how I feel about Iceland I will quote from one of my blog posts: "Apart from anything else, I think I love this country because I sometimes feel like Iceland: remote, unlike anything else, sometimes overseen yet unexpectedly explosive and troubled, beautifully complex, ruled by nature, creative and full of impossible dreams, always changing (literally), full of oddities and fucking awesome."

    That was definitely pretentious.

    No regrets.
