I wear high heels, own a Chihuahua, read ELLE and eat cupcakes - but I'm not at all who you think I am.

Sweater - Sisley // Jeans - WeSC

I can do simple things too; much thanks to Tina Rekdal. After all these shoots focusing on my hair, my hair and nothing but my hair - this was actually a very welcomed break. Tina stripped it down to the bare necessities and shot these black and whites downtown a little while ago. I like how quiet they are; don't you?

On a completely different note:

I was wondering, if you could perhaps answer a question or two for me? It's nothing complicated; I'd just really like to hear from you guys - since your already here, I mean

Anything you got; questions, comments, criticism, compliments - or perhaps just tell me what book you're reading! Who are you? Why are you here? Where are you from? What do you like or dislike about my blog? Or what would you like to see more or less of? I'd really like to get to know you! You do know a thing or two about me, but I must admit - I don't know a lot about you. Can we please change that?

I'm Camila from Rosario, Argentina and I'm here because I like fashion but don't care too much for all the crazy trends that some people wear just because they own a blog and want to show them off. You are always yourself and you are a beautful person outside and (from what I can read) inside too, and you've never changed that.
Also, your photography is stunning, especially the background, I wish my backyard looked like that!
I do have a question tough, It is kind of personal but I'm very interested: How is it coming out in your country, do they accept it well or they reject the idea of same-sex marriage and relationships? You can choose not to answer it, it's fine.

Anyways, just keep doing what you do, you're very good at it :)
I'll stop writting before you start sleeping on your keyboard now.

    1. Hi Camila from Rosario! Nice to meet you!

I don't mind answering your question at all!

Coming out in Norway is "easy". By easy I mean that we have almost complete equal rights and a very gay friendly country. The only thing left now, I think - is adoption.

It's of course a personal struggle for us as well, but compared to a lot of other countries: we have it really easy! Most people accept the idea of same sex-marriage and relationships, but of course - there's always someone against it. We're not afraid to kiss or hold hands in public. People generally just keep to themselves anyways.

Ida and I chose to get married in a private ceremony at the courthouse. We could of course get married in a church, but neither of us is very Christian - so we chose to keep it real.

Hope that answered your question. I really appreciate your comment, and your shower of compliments, of course! I just try to keep it as real as possible when it comes to my style!

  2. I apologize for rarely commenting so rarely. I've been following you for a long time. I've always thought you are pretty and liked a lot of your blog posts. I'm old, very reclusive, and am a vegetarian, so I rarely comment on outfit posts that center on leather or fur. I am a lingerie fashionista who primarily blogs about, male-models and does customer lingerie reviews of ladies full brief panties on my blog http://www.full-brief-panties.blogspot.com/ and on my YouTube (Mister Panty Bun's Channel. I have also done off-topic posts from time to time - posts about Lady Gaga or Katy Perry or the TV show Nikita, or my long ago lost love, or about my commenters, or about various underwear in public events (the No Pants Subway Ride, No Pants Day, The Utah Undie Run, etc. etc. etc.).

I think it's important to blog about what you enjoy, I also like the support I the fashionista blogging community. YouTube comments and criticism isn't always as nice or accepting so I have been disabling comments on YouTube.

Your hair and your poses are beautiful. As I've gotten older and heavier it's seemed like you have been getting much younger and extremely thin. There were times I started to comment and then didn't post it because I thought my comment like I was a dirty old man and a lecher.

Anyway, I like the way your blog looks now and will try to make a point of saying hello more often. I hope you can just be and accept yourself for who you are, blog about whatever you feel like blogging about, and get the support and love of your fellow bloggers. You are you, and there's no need for you to try to be anything other than who you are. Maybe if check back often enough I'll find out about the you that I didn't know or think you were - and I hope you look and are happier. Happy Spring six days in advance.

    1. Hi!

My apologizes if I have offended you in any ways with my leather and faux-fur related posts; that is of course never my intention.

I too think it's important to blog about what you love! I know haters can be really difficult to handle, and in your line of work, I imagine the criticism can be really tough. You seem like a friendly soul, and I hope you don't let it get to you! Just keep being you and do what makes you happy. And don't let anyone take that away from you!

Thank you for your lovely comment! I really appreciate the support and the reminder that being me is enough! And Happy spring to you in advance too!

So you're an artist! How interesting! What is it like working with those types of cameras? I only remember having to borrow my parents old analog camera when I was younger, and it was made out of inexpensive plastic - so I can't exactly compare notes!

I really appreciate your feedback and comment! I'll try to post more pictures from my shoots! Hopefully, someday, I'll be able to travel the world and then perhaps we could meet ;)
Thank you for visiting me for a whole year!

  4. This is a lovely post, and a great example of why I love your blog! You just seem like such a friendly and special person. And of course your sense of fashion is impeccable..and you are gorgeous.. wahh ♥ Anyway..I am from Minneapolis but I live in Berlin now (because my boyfriend is from here). I absolutely love Berlin and feel very at home here. I am studying fashion design (in German) too! I would love to someday sell clothes that I make in an online store. I love fashion but I don't feel at all drawn to the world of big designers and fashionistas. I really want to travel, especially around the Scandinavian countries. I would also love to learn Norwegian, Swedish, and Finnish. There now you know something about me!

You blog is really my absolute favorite at the moment. I love everything about it.. you are a huge inspiration, yet you seem so approachable! I think that is very difficult to achieve..

    1. Hi Sonja!

Thank you for your incredible kind comment!

What's it like moving from one country to another? I'm personally chasing an American dream of my own, so I'm always surprised when people leave the US for Europe! Just ignore my question if it was for LOVE, because that I understand! ;)

You seem like a remarkable person, from what I can tell from your comments. Just kind, through and through. And super smart! I studied German for a couple of years in school, but I can't remember anything today. Other than: Ich heisse Barbro unt Ich komme aus Norwegen. Or something like that! And to put other languages on top of that; that's just impressive!

Thank you for letting me know a little more about you, Sonja!

    2. You are very welcome!

I was very stressful moving from the USA to Germany.. dealing with the immigration office was (and still is, and always will be) a nightmare. I'm sure it's like that for pretty much any country though. The people there are just so unfriendly! But I'm finally past the main issues of moving here. And yes, I did move here for love, but I think that if I hadn't met Jakob I would have moved somewhere else anyway! I never really thought of moving to Germany but I'm happy it turned out this way. I love it here, and I love the language. It was really difficult to learn but now I would say I am almost fluent!

I also learned German for 2 years in school but I hadn't remembered anything from that ^__^

Is there a particular reason that you are interested in living in America? Where would you want to go? The first year or so that I lived here I was so thrilled with the differences that I really thought I would never want to go back. But now that I've had some time I can really appreciate the pros and cons of each place. What are the "pros" that make America so attractive to you? Or is it just something about Norway that isn't present in the US? Sorry for all the questions I'm just curious!

Ok I think this is the longest comment I've ever written..
As always, I love your blog, I hope you never stop posting! ♥

      Delete
    3. I can only imagine. I hear the immigration office is really hard dealing with here on Norway as well. I can understand why we need all these rules, but sometimes I just feel like they forget that there are people involved. People, love, families. Not just work visas and stuff like that.

I will always dream of New York, but the West Coast is very appealing to me. I was in San Francisco for a few days back in 2011, and I just fell on love with the people and the city. I really feel like Americans are much more friendly than Norwegians, and since I've been in love with English (as a language) for practically all my life - it just makes sense. I know Norway is thought to be one of the best countries to live in, in the whole world, but the climate here is just killing me. I don't want to leave here forever, but I want to take a break from the everlasting winters and cold summers.

It's not just the US that's appealing; I adore the Mediterranean countries too. Spain, Greece, Croatia, Turkey, Montenegro. I just need sun. And I've never been the girl that needs a lot of money, so as long as I can pay for some food and have a roof over my head, I'm perfectly happy.

I think this is my longest comment as well! Thanks for yours; the curiosity and honesty! <3

  5. Well, you do know who I am. :) I am Desirée, I'm 23, I'm a photographer, and I now study (law), live with my love, and look forward to the lovely time called spring. I like kittens, and other cute animals, and books, and pretty things. I guess you're under the last one, if you're not allowing me to call you a kitten. ;) I live in Kristiansand, which sadly got about 20 cm more snow this day. I'd like to see more photos of you (always), and maybe also of things you like - like books, places, pictures that inspire you, places you'd want to go etc? :) Anything, really. Oh, and maybe if you have some favourite things like a good tea, coffee etc.

I was supposed to do a lot of really-really important stuff today; like re-arrange the furniture in our living room - but I only finished one fifth of it so far.

My favorite coffee is hot, my favorite book is thick, my favorite place is warm and my favorite pictures are of my loved ones.

Thank you for all your tips; and support throughout the years. Has it really been about 10 years already? In that case, please don't tell anyone how old I am! ;)

You feel drained and exhausted all the time, and I really don't want you to think less of yourself because you don't live on the north pole! Please know that <3 Your feelings are legit <3

I stay creative as a photographer, writer and musician and I love to photograph local street fashion. I live in Cedar Rapids, Iowa in the US where I get to have the pleasure of helping others fulfill their creative dreams and passions as a Life Coach.

My oh my, thank you for your incredible kind comment! I really can't put into words how much I appreciate this!

I find it really interesting that you are a Life Coach; not to mention all the creative outlets you seem to have in your life. Isn't it challenging, though - coaching others? I get the sense that it is, as well as extremely fulfilling, when things go according to plan.

My favorite way to stay inspired is actually flipping through magazines; cover to cover, as well as photography books, nature and music. It's a cliché, I guess - but I think I look at the world in a certain way, notice details. I try stay alert to the beauty around me, and more than often - the beauty I notice comes straight from mother nature. I think that has a lot to do with me growing up surrounded by mountains and fjords. That, and I like to just tune out the world. Kind of isolate myself. It allows me to breathe.

Thanks again for leaving this for me to read. You're amazing!

When it's wet you wish for the sun and when it's dry you pray for the rain. Right now I'm in Trinidad and it's the dry season which means that there are bush fires spontaneously starting, I live in a valley so it's really scary yet beautiful when all the hills are on fire :) <3 HAVE A HAPPY MONDAY!

    Hi Barbro!
I've had your blog bookmarked in my blogs folder for what seems forever! I find your blog refreshingly different to the usual ones.
I don't want you to change anything about your blog! No, I don't wanna know too much - a little bit of mystery goes a long way these days... I really read your blog because of your hair y'know - it's like something else.
Do you enjoy music? I thought you might be a Kate Bush fan, but maybe that was just my imagination.. or the hair perhaps.
About me, I post as Scongo and I follow you on Facebook. I live about 2hr from Paris in a tiny medieval village with my little family, but originally we're from Australia. People always say we're crazy to move from sunny Oz to freezing France, but y'know that expression "the grass is always greener..." Haha - it's true - well, until.. Well that's another story!
I hope you continue to blog and stay natural and beautiful - know you will!

    1. Hello you!

I love what you just wrote! Mystery really does go a long way these days - and I truly appreciate that you said that! I really don't want to be a blogger that updates with pictures of my breakfast and coffee; I'd much rather have journal entries with some kind of meaning.

I do enjoy music, but I spend far too little time just listening to it these days. When spring comes, that's when I'm at my best and that's when I dust of my iTunes library and update my Spotify lists. I can't wait until then!

I must admit, I don't really want to reveal my taste in music as you were pointing out the beauty of some mystery - but I can't help myself. I'm a indie pop and acoustic kind of girl. My favorites right now are actually two Norwegian girls: Maria Mena and Christel Alsos. I really recommend listening to a tune or two. It's poetry, with music attached.

Thank you for leaving some thoughts with me, I very much appreciate that. And I do hope you come back again and again.

Hello Barbro! I am from a small country in Europe called Bulgaria. I am a student but I spend the majority of my time writing-or thinking about writing, ha. I've been reading your blog for about three years-though I don't comment very often which I regret. I enjoy your blog for a lot of reason but mainly because it is really more of a style journal than a fashion blog. It's very interesting to see how you play with clothes and it seems like you genuinely have fun with dressing up. In a sea of blogs I really like that! I am also fascinated by the Norwegian nature! I'd really love to visit such a beautiful place although I'm not quite sure if I'd be able to handle the winter-it was close to 20°C the other day here and it was wonderful (though now it is snowing and I am heartbroken..).
This comment probably hasn't been very useful as I can't really point something out that I'd like you to change... I only hope that you continue blogging!

I really like how you think of my blog as a style journal, rather than a typical fashion blog. I feel the same way, and I'm happy to hear you do too!

I do know Bulgaria, but I haven't visited. Yet. My mother was on holiday there a few years ago, and couldn't stop talking about it! I will too, someday! And 20°C sounds pretty perfect to me right now, even if it is just for a few hours! Maybe we should just trade places for a bit! That way you could get to experience a Nordic winter and I could get an instant tan!

      Thank you again for commenting!

  12. Hey, darling! This is your wife speaking (writing, actually).

I go by many names; most of them came from you. My mother named me Ida, but I usually go by "kjære" in our home.
I am from a lovely little place in Norway called Ørnes. Oh, wait - You already know that too since you've lived there half your life and the first time we kissed was in your childhood home.

About the books.. You know I don't really read, but right now I'm reading about 15 of them simultaneously and about a week after the Easter bunny’s visit I can go back to my normal "no-reading-mode".

I am here, visiting your blog, because I simply cannot get enough of you. This has been the case ever since I met you eight years ago. I love that you have created your own little safe haven were your readers get a peek into your beautiful mind. This place is also proof of how much kindness and love you have, and proof there are still beauty in the world if you know where to look.

And of course, this blog makes it possible for me to have you with me every second of every day - which is amazingly selfish, but an awesome truth.

    Jeg elsker deg, kjære <3

  13. Such gorgeous photography. You look gorgeous in these photos!

Well you probably already know me since I have been following our blog for quite some time!
I recently got married last year (July 7th)! My husband and I moved to Florida a year ago and we are still adjusting! Big climate change- haha. Also, we just purchased our first home about 4 months ago. We are still decorating and making the house ours. It's definitely worth it being a home owner.

I graduated with an Associates Degree in Fashion Merchandising last fall. I also have a Bachelor's of Science and another Associate of Arts degree. So I have a total of three degrees- haha. I have lots of interests and I always like learning about new topics/subjects.

Besides fashion, I love history and traveling.
That is one "geeky" thing about me. I enjoy going to museums, touring historical places and traveling to new places. Actually my Associates of Arts degree was in Archaeology!
With that I got to travel to so many beautiful places. It's more of a hobby now but I still enjoy it. :)

My other hobby would be writing and reading. If I had more time I would have a second blog on just book reviews and on general writing. Fashion Journalism is what I want to do with my fashion degree. After studying so many different subjects and finding myself over the years I finally found what I want to do the rest of my life and I can't wait to pursue it.

Well, those are the basic things about me. I always enjoy reading your blog. You have such a unique sense of style and gorgeous photography. You are always so kind to everyone that comments and follows you.
I will definitely still keep following your blog. :)

How wonderful it is that you bought your first home together! I must admit, I'm very jealous of you! I can only imagine how great it must feel to have your own place; to decorate, to fill, to enjoy and to love!

So you're a degree collector! Merchandising, Science, Archeology and Fashion - that's an eclectic collection! That's really interesting! I'm the completely opposite! I do enjoy museums and art exhibitions, though!

If you enjoy reading and writing, you should check out Goodreads (http://www.goodreads.com/) - if you haven't already! It's a perfect place to write reviews of books and follow friends and family with the same interest. I don't use it that much, but I enjoy reading what other people thought of the book I just read.

You are one of my most faithful readers and commentators, and it's really nice to finally know a little more about you! I'm really happy you've decided what you want to do with your life - now go get it! <3

  14. Hi Barbro, I'm from Portugal, am here beause I find your style interesting, and I really love your hair - it sooooo reminds me of early 90's norwegian black metal bands. There is really something about you and this blog that takes me back to my days of living fully in the Black Metal lifestyle and only listening to Norwegian bands. Do not take this the wrong way, please, nor feel offended by it, it is a statement on how you really must be much more than just an Elle reading, cupcake eating, small dog owning blogger girl. There is depth in here, and your pictures leave enough space to imagination, so tha anyone can picture something different. I chose to picture a darker side to it, but that comes from my own personal imagery concept and my background. And I am currently reading Game of Thrones, and crazy to delve into the latest Stephen King instalments.

I like the idea of leaving it all, or most of it, up to the imagination! I don't really think that one can ever truly know another person anyways, so why are we trying so hard to make (or fake) a certain image? I think that there will always be another truth, another story or another point of view. And this is just mine, right now. But most of all yours - to imagine. You should come to CHile, is a gorgeous place, specially in the south. Try to come here before all the thermoelectrics kill the forest.

Yep, 3 of each. Is crazy, yes, specially when the 3 of them start to bark. But they are lovely. And my cats, well, you know cats, they rule this house. I'm specially close to one of them, she's my sister. Two of my dogs are "Quiltros" wich is the name that we give here in Chile for street dogs that don't have a breed and the other one is a "Tekel" wich is a type of "Dachshund" with longer hair.

Is a boy. A gorgeous boy.

      Kisses B!!

PS: Maybe we can be someday! I want to study that to use it in my photography thingy.I feel like is better to study that instead of Photography. It opens your mind. I'm doing a minor in Arts and it has helped me a lot.

    3. Wonderful!

I've only seen a few pictures, but it really seems like a wonderful country with the mountains and the sea - in a way, similar to Norway!

I can totally relate to that bark-thingy, and we only have ONE tiny dog! Sounds like a really interesting combination of creatures, just like it's supposed to be! :D I'd love to see a picture of them!

I think you should absolutely pursue your photography thingy! I love your pictures and would love to see even more <3

    4. Yeah. As we are a long and thin country we have sea and mountains and dessert and snow (Since we own a part of the Antartic).

Yeah, but your tiny dog is a chihuahua, those are some powerfull dogs. A friend of mine as one and he almost eat me alive. I have some pictures of my cats in facebook, but not to many of my dogs I think.

Yeah, for sure I'm going to pursue it, not just yet. Thanks for those words.

  20. Hi Barbro :)

Well I have been following you quietly for the last couple of years, maybe commenting once or twice in the past. Actually I found your blog while I was googling knit projects, and your knit shorts came up, so there's a date I can trace my following back to! Anyway, I always love your self-made photo shoots, and your personal style - especially those grand high-heeled boots you wear. Also, Norway should totally use your website as part of their tourism campaigns because it looks so amazingly gorgeous, even just you chilling in your backyard!

One of my favourite posts you put up had you talking and it was quite unexpected to me to hear how softly spoken you are, I guess your photos emanate a lot of power and to see that coming from a quiet lady such as yourself was really pleasant. Another post I enjoyed was one where you collated all your outfit pictures from one year and set it all to music - some great song choices if I recall!

Oh and of course when you won your trip to New York I felt ridiculously proud of you, even as a person I'd never met!

About myself, I live in the mostly sunny city of Brisbane, Australia. We're in a weird "place" here, everybody has heard of Sydney and Melbourne but poor third-biggest Brisbane is a little of a cultural backwater trying to live up to it's elder siblings. There are some great emerging scenes around the city but still it has a small town feel sometimes in people's attitudes to things (and a very small town sense of everybody knows somebody that you know).

I study Science majoring in Geology at university which some people might think is totally dull but I can justify with three very simple reasons: 1) I like rocks. They're interesting to me. 2) I will be able to get a job that will pay very well and live completely independently off my own means. 3) I can travel anywhere in the world with it. The third is very important as travelling is everything to me but I haven't gone too far yet, just mainly around our area of the world and visiting my relations in Fiji. I haven't even been to Europe yet so Norway seems almost like something I'd just read about in a book and far off still to visit :/

Anyway, I think you guys should come visit Australia - preferably in our summer - not only so we can be graced with your beautiful presence but also so we can have a look-see at your summer outfits on the blog. Not your mild European 'summer', I'm talking an average 35-degree day summer! I think I have said the word summer enough in this paragraph - but yes Barbro, I have officially laid down the great Australian challenge to you now :)

I hope you have a wonderful week and thanks for the blog

    1. Hi Erin Christel!

Where do I begin? What an incredible person you are, to leave me this wonderful comment and to write such beautiful things! Thank you so much for that!

Haha, I'll totally contact the Norwegian ambassador and ask if they agree with you!

I've actually always been kind of jealous of people who take awesome outfit photos in the middle of the street, but this is just who I am - and I don't really want to change that! I feel very lucky to have such a beautiful garden to take my pictures in!

It's kind of funny, when I think about it - but I never thought of my pictures as tough looking; so I was equally surprised when people reacted to how soft spoken I was/am. It was a huge step for me putting a video out there, but it got me all the way to New York city, so it was totally worth it. Now that was an awesome experience: and I'm still in shock over how many of you guys voted for me and the support I got from everyone around me! Those are memories I'll cherish forever!

Brisbane sounds like a great city: well minus the part where everyone knows everyone! I don't know a lot about the city itself, but I'm kind of a design-show-freak who watches a lot of home-construction, design and architecture programs on TV - so if I'm not mistaken: Brisbane has been mention more than a few times.

I personally don't think geology sounds boring at all! It sounds rather interesting, actually. What is it exactly that you do then, if you don't mind me asking? Is it like a laboratory job or do you spend a lot of time out in the field?

I'm a huge travel junkie myself, which is awesome considering I'm married to a soon-to-be-teacher. Spring break, Easter break, summer break, fall break and Christmas vacations.

I guess we're kind of in the same boat, because Australia is still so foreign to me - like you say; almost like something from a book. I'd really love to visit sometime - so your challenge is totally accepted! I wouldn't mind having some 35-degree weather to complain about!

Thank you for allowing me to get to know you a little better, E!

Hope you have a great weekend! Can't remember if you're a day ahead of us or a day behind - but anyways: we're almost there! ;)

    3. Oh and with regards to the geology it's a lot of field work, working out in the bush on site - I've worked a desk job before and I knew being shut up inside wasn't for me. Another appealing aspect of the job!

    4. Oh, of course! I try to answer all my comments, it just takes a little longer sometimes ;)

Thanks for returning as well! I couldn't agree more about the desk job thing - even though I'm a blogger myself. I need to see something more than a computer ;)

  23. Hello Barbro.

My name is Synnøve. I have wanted to post a comment here since I read the post, time to take action and do it :) I am from the same small town, Meløy, as you. I was friends with your little sister for a while. And we met a few times at family birthday after my uncle and your Ida's mother got together. I really wished I dared to talk to you back then. Because I have always admired and liked how kind and friendly you where. But I was so shy back then. As I have gotten older I have realized that I might actually suffer from social anxiety.

I currently don't have time to read much due to university work, but when summer comes I am picking up 1Q84 by Haruki Murakami as I never got to finish before I left Norway. This summer I am also going to Alicante, Mallorca, with M (my boyfriend) and his family. And I am currently finishing my bachelor in BA(Hons) Interor Design in Wolverhampton, UK. As I mentioned my social anxiety, I must say I feel proud for getting this far.

I am here because in a vague way I feel like I have a tiny knowledge of who you are, and following you and your style is inspirational to a tiny dreamy blogger like me. You give me courage, and hope that people from small twisted towns like us can actually become something. I honestly don't have anything in particular that I dislike about your blog, it is your style diary and it is so imperfectly perfect in so many ways. And I think I just have mentioned what I like about it :)

Just keep up the good work, and being you. And I'll work on commenting more often :) Just hope this one didn't become to long or weird for u! :)

    1. Hi Synnøve!

I can totally relate to the shyness, I'm the exact same way. People often think I'm arrogant or stuff like that because I prefer to stand in a corner and not interact with them. I wish I could get out of my little bubble, but it's really hard!

I applaud you for traveling to a new country and going to school, especially since you have a hard time in social situations! I think that's really gutsy of you!

Us small town girls gotta stick together! It's not at all weird that you commented, I really appreciate that! Thank you so much for the feedback and for letting me know you're out there <3

  24. These pictures of you remind me so much of Björk!

Maybe not so literal but do you see the resemblance? :)

I just found your blog last night through Lookbook and have already flipped through like 15 pages or something? Love your looks, you have a characteristic face. I'm certain I will visit this blog again!

    1. Hi Tove!

Ooh, I adore Björk - so thank you so much for such a wonderful compliment! I've often been told that we resemble each other, so I'm not at all surprised.

I'm really happy you enjoy my little blog!

      Thank you for commenting <3
